![]() ![]() Essentially, the KMS is a role on a server. Your other option is a Volume License with Microsoft that will let you use the KMS. ![]() MAKs are good for mid size businesses and quickly growing businesses higher than 100 but less than 1000. If you go this route, I recommend using the Volume Activation Management tool. You can use it in concert with WDS if you use Microsoft Deployment toolkit. A MAK will give you a single key that you can use for multiple activations. If you work for a business, you should really look at a MAK (multiple activation key) or a KMS (Key Management Server). Retail copies can have multiple activations, but OEMs are 1 per mobo unless you grovel to the MS mothership. The person who said OEMs have multiple activations is, unfortunately, mistaken. This is good for small companies who don't buy a lot of PCs, and generally, if you buy a pc, you buy the OEM. Otherwise they come with the PC w the documentation. Most companies that give you Windows 8.1 licenses are actually stored in the bios and will auto activate. So if you use strictly OEM licenses, those are tied to the mobo. ![]()
